A business opportunity which can make an enterprise fly
Nondisileko Manyamawala attended a Socionext workshop in July 2016 in the town of Queenstown, the Eastern Cape.
During the workshop Nondi and her team worked on the business concept of chicken farming.
Although the rest of her team disbanded, Nondi stuck with the business and made it into a success.
Nondi specialises in meat birds. At a few days old she buys the chicks, fattens them up and sells them live to her local community.
As with many small scale poultry producers the environment is the biggest challenge to her business success. Keeping the chicks healthy and safe through the extremes of summer and winter can be very challenging, especially with very basic infrastructure and equipment.
Notwithstanding, she has been able to build a solid market within her community and provides for them consistently.
Nondi has a vision to enter into the egg market as well by investing in egg laying birds. She believes that there is strong demand for eggs, and in her community people have to travel far to get them. With the right infrastructure she believes that this is a business opportunity which can really make her enterprise fly.
