5 Day Workshop
The 5-day workshop opens people’s minds, teaching them a practical process to start a business. Their lens shifts, they begin to see opportunities around them where they previously saw only problems. They build confidence and self-belief, a transformation in what they thought they were ever capable of.
Participants leave the workshop motivated to improve their situations and confident that they can. This new self-belief doesn’t only translate into pursuing entrepreneurship though. Participants use a combination of this, studies and employment to improve their situations. As such, we also look at NEET rates as an outcome of the program.

5-Day Workshop Outcomes
The following results are from our most recent monitoring period, which includes programs from 2018 to 2023.
These figures reflect only those participants we were able to contact (46%). Thus, we believe the actual impact to be larger.
The median level businesses are generating around R 2 400 in profits per month. With a select group of top performers generating R 20 000 – R 70 000 per month in profit.
Although the majority are small, micro enterprises generating what may seem nominal amounts, the income support makes a powerful impact for poor households.
Not only does the income provide a crucial support against downward poverty mobility, but the small business can be the very thing that uplifts the household out of economic stress and vulnerability, by providing a strong foothold for upward mobility.
Not all participants are destined to be entrepreneurs. Many find work as they become more confident to approach the job market. While others become motivated to invest in their future by pursuing studies.
Of those not active in business:

5 Day Worksop Outcomes
With an unemployment rate of 73% at the time of the workshop this group has undergone a significant transformation with unemployment dropping to 24%.
Although the focus is on business activity, through the workshop participants become more motivated and inspired to create positive change in their lives. This also takes the form of pursuing studies or employment.
77% of participants surveyed say they are motivated to improve their life and confident they can achieve this change.

Accelerator Program Outcomes
While the 5-day workshop activates entrepreneurs, our regional accelerator accelerates high potentials through mentoring, access to grant capital and P2P support networks.
The program enhances the entrepreneur’s capabilities, enabling them with the skills, tools and mindsets to independently manage and sustain growth.
We find businesses shift from focusing on supporting the owner and their household only to creating meaningful employment opportunities for others.
