How can you turn waste into something worthwhile? A team of three students developed the idea of fire starters made from the leftover algae which are a by- product of the pond systems for sewage treatment.

Their algal fire starters are an eco-friendly, low cost and sustainable replacement for the traditional polystyrene fire starters. They named their company Firebloom, and one of their other plans under development is to expand into the production of hydrogen and synthetic gas from wastewater by utilizing proprietary supercritical water gasification.
