Santos’ Kitchen
Location, location, location
Santos Phukuntsi started his entrepreneurial journey when he attended a Socionext workshop in February 2016 in the town of Phomolong, Free State. During the workshop he and his team worked on the business idea of selling chickens.

This business grew well after the workshop but the team members realised that they had different ambitions and decided to part.
Stuck with a few chickens and now no fridge to store them he thought on his feet and decided to turn them into a meal and sell to his customers. Thus, his restaurant was born.
Santos operates a small fast food take away shop in a bustling area of Phomolong. He credits his location as key part of his business success and knows how to capture his target market.
He used the knowledge he gained at the workshop to do market research and ensure he prices his products well. His business now generates between R6 000,00 and R8 000,00 and has created employment for three people.
Santos has a dream to take his business to the next level. In his community there are no restaurants or cafes where people can sit down and relax. Even the closest Steers or KFC is 25 km away in Welkom. In his area there are only other small fast food sellers like himself.
He has a vision to get his own premises in a local building, which he has already earmarked and is in discussions with the municipality to lease.
