Sithandiwe's Bakery
From wedding cakes to snowballs
Sithandiwe Zondi attended a Socionext workshop in March 2016. She lives in the rural village of Matimotolo, outside of Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal.

During the workshop she and her team worked on the business idea of a bakery. Although the team disbanded, Sithandiwe has continued with the business and made it a success.
Sithandiwe specialises in wedding cakes and baked goods for formal occasions. She does, however, have a broad product range from cupcakes and muffins to coconut snowballs.
Sithandiwe almost lost the business when she sold to too many customers on credit. A number of them did not end up paying for their orders. This severely affected her cash flow and ability to purchase more stock. But it was an important lesson, however, as she now insists on cash on delivery or a minimum deposit for larger orders.
With the success of her baking Sithandiwe would like to expand her business to include tea, coffee and other hot drinks. She believes that this could be a lucrative addition to her offerings.
