THE BIG PILL MACHINE
Help out TB patients with an ATM for medication
One of the many problems TB patients in South Africa face is having to wait in line to receive their medication. The need for a better solution is all the more important because TB is very contagious. A team of University students without any entrepreneurship experience wanted to tackle this problem. In the Socionext workshop they created and tested a prototype for an automated pill dispenser.
Within the five days of the workshop they had reached out to Philips as a potential partner. With the help of the company they were able to do the costing for the production of the machine and develop design specifications. The team has since managed to find their first potential buyer in the South African Ministry of Health. The idea was rewarded with the first prize in the Standard Bank Challenge.
